"When His Lips Move"
In the Light of the Jewish Idea by Rabbi Meir Kahane
by Nachum Shifren

Rabbi Kahane always said: There are two kinds of Arabs- ones that won't tell you what they're thinking, others say what they mean. The last category are always preferable. They remind the Jew (over and over, again and again) of what reality is all about. Without these types of Arabs, we might be lulled into believing in the "new Middle East" (as Peres is wont to declare), where a "new" awareness, a new mantra is bantied about reflecting a different attitude toward Jews.

For years, we could count on Khaddafi, Khoumeini, and Nasser to awaken us out of our slumber about what the Arab is thinking. But then, with the Oslo accords, Yitzchak Rabin unilatterallly broke the laws of humanity and character of nations with his handshake on the White House lawn. The clinking of champagne glasses, the smiles of Bill and Hillary, and the ever-present checkbook of Uncle Sam for the Palestinians served to throw a roadblock in the road of human
relations- and logic.

And what of the million or so Arabs living in the Land of Israel, who speak Hebrew better than you or I? What about those pundits, untiring in their praise for "the only democracy in the Middle East" that would allow Arabs to legislate from the Israeli parliament about matters vital to the Jewish people? These are the first category of Arabs mentioned above, about whom our Torah parsha comes to remind us- seemingly against our will- that any outward sign of benevolence or mutual understanding on their part toward the Jewish state is simply smoke and mirrors.

"And you shall answer and say before your G-d: an Aramite killed my father." This is a very strange statement. The Aramite in question is Laban, with whom our Father Jacob spent 20 years. Why does the Torah tell us that Laban killed Jacob? This obviously didn't happen! Rashi, our commentator, tells us that Hashem, who reads all thoughts of men, considered Laban's consistent thoughts and conniving as actual deeds.
Something to learn this week, as we prepare to hand over our fate to the vile UN, as if they never thought evil of us. More importantly to learn is that the corrupt Israeli government, has had every opportunity to learn the OVERT plans of our enemies, let alone the inferences of malice. And yet, they're completely comfortable about UN backing of the Hizbollah, covering their backs while they make preparations for a next round, G-d forbid.

How the Torah is truly a tree of life, to those that cling to it. And of course, the opposite is inferred.
